South West Herts Archaeological & Historical SocietyThe Society was founded in 1954 and formerly carried out a variety of archaeological investigations in South West Herts. Some of its finds may be seen in museums in Waford and elsewhere in the area. Currently the Society provides a varied programme of lectures by experts in local, national and international topics. A leaflet with a list of lectures for the coming months is sent to members each year in September or early October. Copies are also available to enquirers. Monthly meetings are held on Wednesday evenings, usually from October to April, at Cassio Lodge, 27 The Avenue, Watford at 7.45pm (doors open at 7.30pm). Meetings are free for members; £2 per meeting for visitors. Outings, usually by coach, to historic buildings and places are mostly during the summer months. Members are sent each year a list of coming outings, together with a booking form. The Society, which is a registered charity, runs entirely on voluntary effort, and new members willing to take part in the running of activities are particularly welcome. Please say if you would be interested in helping out and if you have any particular skills, experience or preferences. If you have special interest areas in archaeology or history, let us know so that we can introduce you to any others with similar interests. Membership
